“Blown A Wish” - My Bloody Valentine

There was a time when I thought My Bloody Valentine was one of those new-fangled hardcore metal bands. Oh, Young Nick… I have so much to teach you.

It’s said that Loveless was the album that almost-never-was. It single handedly bankrupted a record label (thanks to Kevin Shield’s perfectionist nature), it’s estimated cost landing somewhere between 160,000 and 250,000 British pounds. The fact is, My Bloody Valentine is one of the many underrated-yet-highly-influential acts that littered the late 80’s/early 90’s. Loveless is now considered one of the seminal albums of modern Alternative-Rock, and stands proudly alongside Nevermind, BugTen, Goo, CoreSlanted And EnchantedUndertow, Dirt, Mellow Gold, etc. Now I don’t like a lot of the music that people usually associate with this time period (namely grunge… cringe), but everything else that was kicking around behind the MTV Unplugged scene was where the real magic was happening. My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless and it predecessor Isn’t Anything will be getting turns on indie-alt. iPods for decades to come.

Enjoy!
